NOTE: As of January 20, 2025, TikTok has been reinstated, and the ban is delayed for 75 days. This means that, at this time, TikTok's final day of operation in the US is TBD. Please note that this article will continue to be updated as information is released regarding TikTok's future status in the US. |
On January 19, 2025, TikTok is at risk of being banned within the United States. This may bring questions on what the status of your music on TikTok will look like after the potential ban is passed. As of now, TikTok's last day of availability on app marketplaces is set to TBD (see above). This FAQ will help answer any questions you may have about your releases on TikTok if the potential ban is passed.
What will happen to my creations (videos) that are currently live on TikTok?
If you currently have a US-based TikTok account, we recommend downloading all content (this includes creations!) to your personal device. In order to download your content, you can use sites like Snaptik and Repurpose.io to download all creations so they can be reposted across other social channels like Instagram and Facebook.
If your account is NOT US-based, you should not expect to be impacted by the ban. With that said, your content won’t be accessible to US-based users if the ban is approved within the USA.
What will happen to my releases that are currently live on TikTok?
Your music's delivery to TikTok will not be affected. While fans in the US will not be able to access your releases on TikTok, all previously distributed releases will still be available to users outside of the US.
Will future releases still be delivered to TikTok?
Yes! All future releases will still be distributed to TikTok, as the potential ban will only affect US-based users. This means that, while you may not be able to access your releases via TikTok (if you're US-based) while the potential ban is in effect, users across the world will still be able to access your releases.
Will I still be paid royalties for my releases from TikTok?
Any royalties you receive for your releases and creations on TikTok will still be delivered to us by TikTok and sent to you in monthly royalty statements. However, please be advised that you may still see a dip in royalties received from TikTok, as the platform will lose millions of active users due to the potential ban in the US.
