First, it’s important to understand that in the licenses outlined below, UnitedMasters is facilitating an agreement between you, the producer (or “licensor”) and the artist buyer (“licensee”). However, UnitedMasters is not able to provide legal guidance, or monitor and enforce the terms within the agreement.
You may pick from one of three license types for your beats:
- Non-Exclusive: Your beat can be licensed to multiple artists for use for a limited length of time (or “term”) that you may choose. Term options include 3 months, 6 months, and from 1 to 20 years. Because this license has a limited term, it’s sometimes referred to as a “lease.”
- Exclusive: Your beat can be licensed to one artist only for a limited length of time (or “term”) that you may choose. Term options include 3 months, 6 months, and from 1 to 20 years. Once this license has been purchased once, the beat will no longer be available for sale. Because this license has a limited term, it’s also sometimes referred to as a “lease.”
- Buyout: Your beat can be purchased outright by one artist only in perpetuity. This means once purchased, the buyer effectively owns the beat forever, so you should think particularly carefully about choosing this option.
For the Non-Exclusive and Exclusive license types only, you can also set a royalty percentage (a “royalty split”) if you’d like to request the artist additional provide a percentage of any future streaming royalties for a song they may release using your beat. Again, please note UnitedMasters cannot monitor or enforce this amount, and payment is entirely the responsibility of the artist buyer who purchases this license agreement.
In addition, for all the license types above, when you upload a beat we provide a suggested price, but you are able to set your own price as you see fit. Prices will vary depending on where you’re at in your career as a Producer. If you’re just starting out, you should feel free to experiment a bit and see how buyers respond.
