With a UnitedMasters DEBUT+ or SELECT subscription, your music gets sent to TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.
By default, the snippet that plays in TikTok will be the first 60 seconds of your release. If you’d like a different section of one of your releases to be played in your official TikTok sound, there are a few ways to edit or choose a section.
TikTok - During Distribution
UnitedMasters offers a tool to select your preview length during the upload process! Setting your timestamp allows you to choose the most compelling part of your song on social platforms, boosting engagement, pre-saves, and overall discovery.
To set your preview timestamp, head to the 'Release Details' section during the distribution flow. This tool will allow you to scroll through the audio waveform to find your preview segment, or enter the start and end times for your snippet!
Please note: TikTok specifically requires that a track preview be 60 seconds. If you select a preview that is under 60 seconds, TikTok (and some other DSPs) may ignore this selection and auto-generate their own preview. That said, your selected preview will be available on all other platforms!
TikTok - After Distribution
It's possible you'll want to change your preview after a release has been approved and delivered. In order to make this request, please reach out to us, ensuring you provide:
Song Name or UPC (Universal Product Code)
Specify what part of the song you want to have played, including start and end times (e.g. 0:15 - 1:15). Please note that this should be exactly 60 seconds
Once the request is submitted, the changes typically take 2-3 days to reflect on TikTok. Please consider this timeline while planning.
Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.)
We are unfortunately unable to edit the timestamp for your release(s) on Facebook and Instagram. That being said, the Meta team has an algorithm in place that calculates the "best" parts of a song based on how other users have utilized it. A song of yours may start from a specific segment for now on Reels, but as user’s start consuming it, Facebook and Instagram algorithms will change the preview time to match the best part of the song.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE
Beginning in January 2025, UnitedMasters does not automatically monetize background usage of your music on Facebook/Instagram (i.e., when your music appears in the background of a Reel, Story, or video rather than being added from the Audio Library).
