TikTok has launched a new tool to help artists build hype for their next release! TikTok’s Album Pre-save tool seamlessly integrates with major streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, empowering your fans to queue up your upcoming projects without ever having to close their TikTok app.
Here is what you need to know about the feature and how to activate it for your next release.
What Are TikTok Pre-Saves?
The TikTok Album Pre-save feature is a powerful promotional tool that lets your audience add your upcoming releases directly to their Spotify or Apple Music libraries.
Once activated, a global pre-save link is pinned directly to your TikTok music tab. This allows you to capture fan attention where they are already engaging with your content, building crucial momentum ahead of your release day.
At this time, TikTok Pre-saves are strictly limited to multi-track projects (such as full albums and EPs). The feature cannot be used for standalone singles.
How to Set Up a Pre-Release Campaign
Upgrade to a TikTok Artist Account
Before you can use the pre-save feature, you need to make sure your profile is officially recognized as an artist. Ensure you have successfully claimed a TikTok Artist Account and that your dedicated music tab is currently active.
Note: You must have admin and edit access to your TikTok for Artists account to create a pre-release campaign.
1. Access the Campaign Portal
Log in to your TikTok for Artists dashboard.
On the left-hand menu under your artist account, click on Pre-release campaigns.
2. Connect Your Album Sources
Next, you will need to link your external streaming pages so fans know exactly where to go.
Spotify: Paste the URL for your live Spotify Countdown page.
Apple Music: Paste your live Apple Music pre-add link, or enter the album's UPC.
Once your links are in, enter the album's UPC, click Confirm, and then hit Continue.
3. Define Your Campaign Duration
Tell TikTok exactly when you want your campaign to run.
Release Date: Enter the exact launch date of your new album.
Start Date: Choose when the campaign begins (this can be up to 365 days prior to your release date).
End Date: Choose when the campaign ends (this must be on or before your actual release date).
Time Zone: Double-check that your time zone is accurate to ensure perfect timing.
Click Continue.
4. Input Album Details
Provide the visual and text assets for your upcoming project:
Album Title & Artist Name: Enter these manually (they may auto-populate from your metadata).
Album Cover: Upload your official artwork. Requirements: 600x600px, under 10 MB, and in either JPEG or PNG format.
Add Song Clips: You must add at least one song. The title is mandatory, and if the song is already ingested into the TikTok library, including the link is highly recommended.
Click Continue.
5. Choose Promotion Placements
Maximize your visibility by selecting where you want the pre-save buttons to appear across TikTok:
Profile Page: Toggle this on to display the pre-release button directly on your main artist profile.
Sound Detail Page: Toggle this on to feature the pre-release button on the music detail pages for any previewed songs.
Videos: You can manually link specific videos (that don't already use the official sound) to feature the pre-release button. When users encounter these videos on their For You page, they can easily pre-save or pre-add the album directly from the video.
Click Submit.
6. Approval & Launch
Once your campaign is approved by TikTok, it will automatically go live at the start time you scheduled.
Eligibility Requirements
Currently, TikTok has restricted this feature based on location. To utilize TikTok Album Pre-saves, you must:
Have an active TikTok Artist Account.
Be based in either the United States or Canada.
