Apple and Google Single Sign-On

Artists can use Single Sign-On (SSO) to link their UM account directly to their Apple or Google account - creating an easier sign-on experience!

For our website and iOS apps, we’re adding new capabilities:

1. New users can create a UnitedMasters account using their Apple or Google login.
2. Existing users can enable SSO for Apple or Google, depending on your preference.

Below are some common questions regarding Apple SSO and how it will integrate into your UM experience.

What is SSO?

If you’ve ever seen the button that says “Sign up with Apple” or “Sign in with Apple,” then you’ve seen Apple Single Sign-on (SSO). The same goes for Google, which usually states 'Continue with Google'.

In short, SSO is a way for users to create an account on various services and apps using their Apple or Google login, which provides an easier, more secure way to log in.

Who is eligible for SSO?

At this time, Apple and Google SSO are available for artists on Web and iOS. Android support should be coming soon!

Can existing users use SSO? How would I enable that?

Yes! Existing users can enable Apple or Google SSO using one of the methods detailed in the answer below.

If the current email address on your account is registered as an Apple ID, you can tap either 'Sign in with Apple' or 'Sign up with Apple' the next time you log in. For a Google/Gmail account, you'll select 'Continue with Google'.

If there's an existing account with the email attached to the Apple or Google account, you'll be prompted to enable SSO. If you accept, your account is now SSO-enabled, and you must log in using SSO going forward. Your password sign-in is removed, and if you had text-message verification codes set up, those are removed too.

You can also access the settings while logged into UM, then access the 'Account' section, and tap on the 'Sign in with Apple' or 'Connect with Google' button.

How do I disable SSO on an existing account?

Right now, artists are unable to directly remove SSO. Reach out to our team, and we'll switch you back to email and password. You'll set a new password the next time you log in.

If SSO is enabled, can I log in using my email and password?

No - once SSO is enabled for an account, the you must use that provider to log in.

Do I have to verify my email address when using Apple SSO?

No! You're being authenticated through a third party, so your email will be verified.

Are SSO users required to enroll in multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

Apple and Google logins use MFA protections automatically - so you'll no longer be able to enroll in MFA through UnitedMasters. If you already had text-message verification codes set up, they're removed when you switch to SSO, and your Apple or Google account's protections apply from then on. You'll confirm one last text-message code during the switch, and after that you won't receive codes from UnitedMasters.

What if I lose access to or forget my Apple/Google password?

You'll need to reset your password with Apple or Google directly. UnitedMasters can't reset your provider's password. If you've lost access to the Apple or Google account entirely and can't log in to UnitedMasters at all, reach out to our team.

Can I change my UnitedMasters email address if I'm using SSO?

This will require some help from our team - if you're using SSO and need to change your email, please reach out and we'll be happy to help.

I logged in using SSO, and my account is empty and it says I’m a Debut user. What happened?

It's likely that the email connected to your Apple account is different than the email connected to your UnitedMasters account, which resulted in a new UM account being created. In this instance, there are a few options:

1. If you'd like to update your account email to match your Apple/Google email, reach out to our team and we can assist with getting your account email changed.
2. In these cases, your original account hasn't changed! Log out, and then sign back in with the email & password you've always used - your music and earnings are still there. The new, empty account was created by the sign-in, and our team can remove it for you.

Can I use Apple's 'Hide My Email' feature for my UnitedMasters account?

You're only able to use 'Hide My Email' if you are creating a new UnitedMasters account - not if you are attempting to link an existing account.

The reason for this Apple effectively creates a new email address when you use 'Hide My Email'. The email that is created by this action will be seen by our system as a distinct email address, since it appears that way to us. So, a new account will be created,

I’m a user with Hide My Email enabled, and I’m not receiving any transactional email receipts. Why?

Check to make sure that email forwarding is enabled in Apple Settings under UnitedMasters. You can do this with the following path:

Settings > Profile > Sign in with Apple > UnitedMasters > Manage Hide My Email > Toggle “Forward to” On

Can I use both Apple and Google SSO on the same account?

No. An account uses one sign-in provider at a time. If you try to connect a second provider, the switch won't go through, and nothing about your sign-in will change.

Can I switch from Apple SSO to Google SSO (or the other way around)?

Yes, with a little help from our team! Reach out to us if you'd like to change - we'll switch your account back to email and password first, and then you can connect the provider you prefer.

It says my Apple ID or Google Account is “already connected to another UnitedMasters account.” What does this mean?

An Apple ID or Google Account can only be used as the primary email on one UnitedMasters account. If you manage more than one UM account, the others keep using email and password. To move your Apple or Google sign-in to a different account, reach out to our team.

My UnitedMasters email is a Gmail alias, like name+music@gmail.com. Can I use Google SSO?

Be careful here. Google signs you in with your main Gmail address, and to us 'name@gmail.com' and 'name+music@gmail.com' are different emails. So tapping 'Continue with Google' will create a brand-new, empty account instead of opening your existing one. If your UM account uses a Gmail alias, keep signing in with your email and password, or reach out to our team to update your account email first.
