Think of unique and non-obvious names. Before selecting your band name, slogan, or logo, search for and be sure to avoid any other existing similar names, slogans or logos online and on the USPTO website (or with your country’s trademark office) in the field of music or entertainment. Also avoid selecting names, slogans or logos that reference individual persons, or that are offensive or disparaging (as they may be rejected by international bodies, even if they are accepted in the US).
As a practical matter, also search domain names and social media handles and select a name that is readily available for your use (and reserve it early).
Selecting a unique name helps you build recognition with your fans and is a great marketing tool, and thus builds trademark rights in your brand.
